Marine Debris Is a material such as plastic, metal, or wood, That was manufactured or processed and , disposed of or abandoned into the marine environment. Such as lakes or the ocean. It gets into the ocean from our streets, directly put into the ocean, fishermen not being particularly cautious, and nation disasters, such as hurricanes, typhoons, tsunamis, and tornado.
-Marine litter is now 60 - 80 percent plastic, reaching 95 percent in some areas.
-Of the 260 million tons of plastic the world produces each year, about 10 percent ends up in the Ocean.
-The top 3 items found in 2008 in the ocean was cigarette butts, plastic bags, and food wrappers/containers.
-The effect of coastal littering is obviously compounded by vectors, such as rivers and storm drains, discharging litter from inland urban areas.
-Offshore plastic-to-plankton mass ratios of 6:1 have been reported in the North Pacific.
